About the Author
Louis C. Gapenski, PhD, is a professor of health services administration with a specialization in corporate and healthcare finance at the University of Florida. He is the author of 30 textbooks, which are used worldwide and include Canadian and international editions as well as translations in eight languages. He has published 40 journal articles related to corporate and healthcare finance and is active in several professional associations. Kristin L. Reiter, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management, Gillings School of Global Public Health, and a research fellow in the Cecil G. Sheps Center for Health Services Research, at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. If I only had to read this book and attempt to understand the material, this book would not be so bad. It is the problems in the book that are awful. They often reference concepts that are not introduced in the material, and I end up supplementing with whatever I can find on the internet. Another clear textbook scam, change the wording around here and there, omit terms, rearrange the phrases in the problems, and sell it as a new edition. Thanks for contributing to the problem that is superfluous college student debt.
I found Gapenski's 'Healthcare Finance' to be a very good textbook for those who need an introduction to healthcare finance topics. The book covers both managerial and financial accounting and has relatively good explanations about different topics within the individual chapters. One criticism I have is that there is no way to know the answers to the questions in the back of each chapter. Now I know that this book is prepared for undergraduates or graduate students, but as a mid-career graduate student, I just wanted to learn the material and needed answers to the questions to help me get through the concepts. I could find answers nowhere. I realize that instructors have answer books, but I think there should be a way to get the answers if you are using this book to learn, not just to pass a class. All in all, this one is a good book and I would recommend it.
I like this textbook! It explains financial management concepts in a way that's easy to understand. I don't normally like textbooks, so I'm surprised that this book is great. Only problem is, this book is very big.
The language of this book is hard to understand and digest for the student who has never taken any finance class. Even I found it hard and worth to mention I had fiance and accountancy major in high school and freshman year :(
The book is literally falling apart and I've only had the book for 2 weeks!! I've never had a textbook fall apart ever!
This was purchased for my Healthcare Finance class for my MBA however it was so relevant to my Health Insurance Job that I have kept the book and ordered a few more for my workers. It has wonderful insight into behind the scenes of finance and what the Healthcare side of business is dealing with.
The entire book is highlighted in red and orange which makes it difficult to read. I need to use it every day for homework.
Book is removed from binding. However it's an accounting book so how good can it really be
